British Pentathlon - Performance

World Class Performance Programme

UK Sport funds the Modern Pentathlon Association of Great Britain?s World Class Performance Programme to win medals at significant international events such as European and World Championships, and of course, the Olympic Games. We have now set our strategy in place and are driving forward to the Games in Beijing in 2008.

Sport England, Sport Scotland and Elite Cymru fund athletes operating at Talented athlete level, in their training and preparation to win medals at Junior and Youth levels. The key aim for the Development Programmes is to develop young athletes nurture and develop athletes to become capable of winning medals at senior level. We aim to embrace them within a 'performance culture' and assist them to achieve their dreams.

Modern Pentathlon Association of Great Britain World Class Performance Programme

This programme currently supports 11 UK athletes in their training and competition programmes with the aim to win medals in significant international competitions now and within the next 4 years, particularly at the Olympic Games in Beijing 2008.

This Programme is funded until March 2009 by UK Sport. The MPAGB National Performance Director, Jan Bartu, has overall responsibility for managing and directing the World Class Performance Programme.

The WCP Programme employees 3 full time staff. The headquarters are based at the High Performance Centre at Bath University.

The MPAGB is accountable to UK Sport for this programme. The National Performance Director also provides the overall strategic direction for all of the World Class Programmes; Performance and Talented Athlete.

World Class Talented Athlete Programme (WCTAP)

This Programme supports 33 English athletes who are selected by the Performance Team using the Consideration Criteria, with the aim to win medals in significant international competitions now and within the next 10 years.

The WCTAP Programme employees 3 full time staff and 5 part time staff. The headquarters are based in Blackpool and the MPAGB Academy for Modern Pentathlon is based at Hartpury College in Gloucestershire.

Stuart Mason MBE, The World Class Talented Athlete Programme Manager, has overall responsibility for managing and directing the WCTAP. The MPAGB is accountable to Sport England for this programme.
