Use of Starting Pistolsposted by Peter Hart on18-08-2005
Following the recent launch of the Violent Crime Reduction Bill and its potential impact on racing starting pistols, the Home Office has been approached to clarify their position on starting pistols under the new Bill and potential grounds for an exemption. The information that came back from the Home Office was:
'Live firearms held on certificate and used with blank ammunition do not fall within the terms of the Bill because they are not imitation firearms. However, the importation, manufacture and sale of blank firing replicas which are not readily convertible to fire live ammunition would be banned. People who owned such weapons at the coming into force of any ban would be able to keep and use their weapons as before, but they would be unable to replace them and people new to race starting would not be able to buy such a weapon.'
'There is provision built into the Bill for exceptions and exemptions to be introduced by Statutory Instrument, and pistols for starting races might be considered for exemption. The Home Office will be consulting with stakeholders in due course.'

Hat Trick of Golds at Relays - Olympic Hopesposted by WCTAP Manager on08-08-2005
The Relays at the Olympic Hopes provided the GBR teams with yet more gold medals. Following a fantastic fence from the Yth A girls it was always going to be difficult for the other Yth A girls to catch them. So winning the swim then only required the girls to hang on in the run, which they did. Nicola, Charlotte and Louise took team relay gold.
The Yth B Boys were in good form too, Robert, Jack and Alex also took team gold in the relay
Now almost expected the Yth B Girls went on to dominate and with Katy Burke competing in the B's along with Hannah and Georgina team gold was never in doubt from the shoot onwards, the girls won the swim and run, again taking team gold for GB.
