Riga report Day 4posted by J Bartu on10-06-2007

European coaching community is highly competitive bunch, relatively friendly and most importantly committed to the development of top class athletes. We all can talk sense and share experiences when the battle is over regardless of nationality. It was one man voice tonight; Riga European Finals were as far as the quality of the competition and intensity are concerned probably the best womens pentathlon performance ever. I know that I was not the only one whos got tears to hide behind the shades after athletes crossed the finishing line. Corsini from Italy shot 190, fenced 928 but it was not enough to win. Olympic Champion Voros shot 188, fenced 832 swam 2:13 and finished 5th. It was a bad hair day for Georgina who was fighting more than competing. Although her 12th place is very good she did not achieve qualification standard for the 2008 OG. Mhairi started well but was unable to follow through finishing 18th and finding hopefully that she needs to re-think approach to her expectations. All three, Georgina, Mhairi and Katy made us proud winning the Team Silver medal. British Pentathlon qualified 2 athletes for the 2008 OG in Beijing. Katy Livingston was almost ideally balanced throughout the day. She appeared calm, focused and fit. Katy scored PB in MP finishing 6th surprising opposition with effortless appearance and ever shinning smile. I would personally pick up one disappointment of the day and that was red colour of her nails. Katy is 100% Pink Lady so I would next time hope for pink applications instead. Heather Fell rocked the rankings today. Training back home in Devon after leaving National Training Centre in Bath some time ago she delivered medal winning performance. Heather shot 180, fenced 17 victories against the best, swam by the book 1:04.6 - 1:05.75, ridden well and ran tough race. Heather demonstrated that she has become serious about Olympic ambitions. I cant speak properly, my legs aches nevertheless we are looking forward to the Womens Team Relay, Tuesday the 12th.
