New Olympic Programme in 2012posted by Peter Hart on08-07-2005

8July2005

The 117th IOC Session in Singapore voted today to include 26 of the 28 current Olympic sports on the programme of the Games of the XXX Olympiad in 2012. The Session decided that baseball and softball will remain on the list of Olympic sports as noted in the Olympic Charter, rule 46, but will not be on the programme for 2012. The two sports are, however, eligible for inclusion in the programme of the 2016 Games.

The IOC Executive Board will convene later today and decide whether any of the five candidate sports (Roller Sports, World Squash, Golf, Karate or Rugby) should be put forward to the Session, who will then vote on whether the sport(s) could be added to the list of Olympic sports and then potentially be included on the programme of the 2012 Games.

Modern Pentathlon Remains Part of The Olympic Programmeposted by Peter Hart on08-07-2005

MODERN PENTATHLON AND THE 2012 OLYMPICS

Following today's IOC announcement that Modern Pentathlon will remain as part of the Olympic Programme beyond the Beijing Games in 2008, Tony Temple, Chairman of the Modern Pentathlon Association of Great Britain, said,

'It is no surprise, but welcome nonetheless, that the IOC affirmed Modern Pentathlon"s continuing status as an Olympic sport.

The MPAGB extends sincere thanks to the IOC Board for recognising the contribution Modern Pentathlon, and its athletes, make to a modern day Olympiad by supporting its inclusion in the Olympic programme beyond Beijing in 2008 and London in 2012.

We will continue to improve the presentation of our sport to reach out to more athletes, domestically and throughout the world.
